| Race report from round 13 of the Focused Events KTM RC8 Super Cup |
| The awesome undulating Cadwell Park circuit was the venue for the penultimate round of the Focused Events KTM RC8 Super Cup. With only one point separating David Wood and Pauli Pekkanen for the series lead, could this round spoil either contender’s assault or could either become the Champion? |

The practice session began on the Sunday in blustery conditions with all keeping an eye on the ever threatening clouds. David Wood (KTM UK) and Pauli Pekkanen (In Moto Corse) were top of the timing sheets being split by 0.28 of a second with each other showing their speed and the only two riders in the 1.35’s lining up a great weekend title prospects.
Following with third place in practice was the ever impressive Junior Cup rider Jon Railton (Ducks X Racing) this young racer is certainly turning heads and showing great speed. Following on in 4th and 5th place were the team Redline motorcycles riders of James Edmeades and Ed Smith. Showing good form is young Ritchie Thornton (TA Creative Ltd – P&H Motorcycles)
After a night of constant rain and wind, bank holiday Monday brings early morning qualifying and tricky wet/dry conditions! With half of the field choosing wet tyres for the very difficult track conditions it takes time to learn the circuit all over again, Andy Battye (Anthracite racing) leads the field early on with a wet set-up, David Wood and Christian Iddon (KTM UK) use dry tyres from the start and this shows early on.
Ten minutes into the session riders come in to change to dry setup due to a fast drying circuit. After a fraught session the final grid positions are not what’s expected, young cup rider Jon Railton grabs his first pole of the year with a Time of 137.3, 2nd goes to Dave Heal (Littlewoods Fencing) only 0.2 seconds behind, third goes to the improving Ed Smith after his earlier season injuries, 4th goes to an impressive Richie Thornton and 5th to Christian Iddon. Most surprising were David Wood in 6th position, Pauli Pekkanen 13th and his In Moto team mate Kelvin Reilly 12th.
On race day, all the riders took to the grid in glorious conditions in front of the strong 40,000 crowd and as the lights go green Dave Heal grabs the holeshot into turn one, closely followed by the young rider Richie Thornton. By the time the field reach Park straight, cup rider Sam Bishop clips another rider and veers onto the grass at speed and heading toward park corner, unfortunately the following collision was unavoidable and resulted in Andy Battye, Pauli Pekkanen and Jon Railton going down, virtually ending Pekkanens title chances.
At the front positions remain with Dave Heal, Ritchie Thornton, David Wood and the hard charging Ed Smith and James Edmeades vying for positions, before the end of the first lap Rob McNealy (Braken Motorcycles) goes down at Mansfield. Lap 5 sees Christian Iddon crash at Barn leaving David Wood at the front from Dave Heal and Ed Smith.
Lap six see’s Dave Heal try to retake the lead from David Wood going into Hairpin corner, unfortunately Heal goes down which leaves the way for Edmeades to attack Wood for the remainder of the race. Ed Smith moves in front of Ritchie Thornton, at the flag David Wood crosses the line first to become the Focused Events RC8 Super Cup Champion 2009.
A well done goes to Scott Roper who finished the race in 6th position on the Focused Events rental bike.
The final championship race is at the famous Silverstone circuit on September 25-27
